#ARCSchat April 5, 2022

Since 1990, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) has been in place to provide for the repatriation and disposition of certain Native American human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony. Over the years, adjustments to the program have been made and most recently in 2021, a new draft of proposed regulation updates was published. Join #ARCSchat on Tuesday, April 5th at 1:00 p.m. ET when the team speaks with Dr. Martina Dawley, Director/THPO at the Hualapai Department of Cultural Resources, to explore these changes, their potential impacts, and how the program can best serve and protect the heritage of Indigenous nations within America.

Emergency Help Now!

The ARCS Emergency Subcommittee is proud to announce its partnership with the Heritage Emergency National Task Force (HENTF) whose mission is to ensure that museums, libraries, archives, and historic sites have the tools and resources to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.

In honor of this partnership, ARCS has developed a new webpage titled “Emergency Help Now!” which provides regionally specific resources for emergency response. We welcome you to explore this resource using the link below.

ARCS 2022 Membership Survey

We want to hear from you! The ARCS Membership Committee has created the 2022 Membership Survey. Your participation and voice will help us improve our work and prioritize your needs. The results help all of us here at ARCS ensure that we are doing right by our membership. The deadline to complete the survey is April 15, 2022. If you are a member and did not receive the survey link, please email us at info@arcsinfo.org to participate.

ARCS Internship Stipend

ARCS is committed to advocating for paid internships in an industry that remains inaccessible to many. We understand that internships are often necessary to begin a career in museums and we feel strongly that that work should be paid. Starting in Fall 2021, ARCS awarded a $1,000 stipend plus an annual membership to two applicants pursuing internships in registration and/or collections management. The goal of the stipend program is to alleviate some of the financial burden that students often have to bear in order to begin their careers in this field.

We are thrilled to continue this initiative and welcome qualified applicants to apply for the Summer 2022 term using the link below. Applications are due by April 15 and winners will be notified in mid-April.
