Description

Please note: This webinar will NOT be recorded and will be broadcast in Eastern Time.

Digital content, unlike traditional analog media (paper records, books, photographs, slides), is especially fragile and requires special proactive care to ensure accessibility and continued use. In this webinar, participants will learn practical skills and methodologies to help establish a practice of digital image preservation such that digital assets in your care are accessible both now and in the future. The class will go over basic archival principles and concepts, discuss the complex nature of digital assets, and explore tools, methods, and best practices for digital image preservation. Participants will walk away with a template to implement a digital preservation practice and resources for further inquiry.

Topics covered include:

  • File naming conventions/best practices and tools
  • Planning & organization strategies: creating a “folder hierarchy”
  • What is metadata and why does it matter?
  • Preservation formats & recommendations for storage media for backups
  • Sample workflow for implementing a digital image preservation practice
